Summer School: Coastal Systems under Pressure

The School is designed for diploma and PhD students and Postdocs with a background of earth science, geology, physical and chemical oceanography, or biology. All costs are covered by the organizers.

Lauenburg (53.371 N, 10.548 E) is situated at the borders of the River Elbe, 50 km upstream of the city of Hamburg. Büsum (54.1325 N, 8.8767 E) lies at the Wadden Sea coast, immediately north of the Elbe mouth.

Travel from Hamburg airport to Lauenburg:
The nearest airport is Hamburg. There are several ways to go from the airport to Hamburg main station. The easiest one is to take a Jasper bus starting from the front of the airport and going directly - every 10 to 15 minutes - to the main railway station. The fare is 5 Euro.
From the main bus station (ZOB) immeditely beside the railway station the bus no. 31 is going every hour to Lauenburg. The fare is 5.50 Euro.
From the Lauenburg bus station you can walk to the Zündholzfabrik (description here) or call me (++49 171 475 8146) and I'll pick you up there.

Accomodation
In Lauenburg, we will have the School and accomodation in the "Zündholzfabrik", a comfortable youth hostel in the ancient part of the town directly at the borders of the Elbe River. The adress is: Elbstrasse 2, 21481 Lauenburg.
In Büsum, the School will be in the Research and Technology Centre West Coast. Accomodation will be in 5 appartments in the town.
The temperature in North Germany is usually 10-15 °C at this time of the year.
